BUYING AT AUCTION
HOW TO BID
Register to Bid
Olive’s Branch Gallery requires individuals to register for every sale we conduct. If you will be bidding with us online, we strongly recommend that you register with us at least 24 hours in advance of the auction, to ensure that your registration has been received and processed by our staff. Additionally, if you plan to absentee bid Olive’s Branch Gallery must receive your completed form at least one day prior to the auction date.
Request a Condition Report
Olive’s Branch Gallery makes every effort to accurately depict each lot via a series of photographs and detailed catalog descriptions provided by our staff of specialists. Please note, however, that all sales are final. Should you have questions about an item prior to the sale, please request a condition report and we will be happy to assist you.

Bidding “in the room” means that you attend the auction in person at our 103 Victoria Street, Greer SC 29651 location. You obtain a bidding card at the registration desk, and you bid live in front of our auctioneers. You will be asked to provide a valid ID with your current address. If you are bidding in person you may pay for and leave with your portable items at the end of that day’s sale. All items picked up in person are subject to a 6% sales tax, unless you hold a valid sales tax exemption certificate. You will be asked to provide us with a copy of the actual certificate.
Bidding online is simple and efficient and is at times preferred by our clients. Register online with the bidding platforms we use and remember to also register for the specific auction being offered. Our staff reviews each registration received, so please allow at least 24 hours for approval.
If you will not be available during an auction but wish to bid on a particular item, absentee bidding allows you to leave a maximum bid amount with our staff. We will bid competitively on your behalf until there are no competing bids or until your maximum bid is reached. Please make your request well in advance of the auction to ensure we can accommodate you. To receive and absentee Bid Form, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that Olive’s Branch Gallery charges a 23% buyers premium in addition to the hammer price of each item sold.
Since Olive’s Branch Gallery uses bidding platforms, we carefully reconcile the total sale on the first normal business day following each auction. Only once all the data has been received and certified may we invoice each winning bidder. Please allow us one to two business days to send your invoice via email.
Along with your invoice, you will receive a credit card authorization form and a list of suggested shippers.
For invoices going abroad and for those with numerous items, we may request payment by wire transfer.
Successful bidders may pick-up items immediately following the sale if they bid in person, or anytime during regular business hours following and auction, once payment is confirmed. All bidders picking up their own items are subject to a 6% sales tax. If you hold a valid sales tax exemption certificate, please let us know prior to pick-up and provide us a copy of your certificate when you arrive.
Post-Auction Offers on Unsold Lots
It is important to note that, per industry standards, most items sold at auction have a reserve or minimum selling price that may be equal to or higher than the opening bid amount. The reserve price is confidential, and all bids are held against a reserve until that amount is met. If the reserve is not met when the bidding stops, the item passes. Passed items them may be offered in subsequent auctions.
If you have an interest in an unsold auction lot, you may contact our office after the sale, and we will be happy to present all reasonable offers to our consignors. Please call 706-726-0268 or email email@example.com.
